ART OF DARKNESS

My friend Catherine Anyango who you may know as the designer of The Real Tuesday Weld artwork and maker of wonderful films such as this has just had her first book published.  It is a graphic novel version of Conrad's Heart of darkness and it is very, very good.

I confess I haven't read the original novel myself - just couldn't make headway up that awful river but I feel as if I know it through repute and because of Apocalypse Now.  So, it has been a pleasure - albeit a dark one - to read it now in this way.

I really recommend it - as do several other people.  Antique Beat has a limited number of first edition copies signed and dedicated by Catherine.

The film brings to mind Sheri Tepper's The Family Tree, a nice ecological revenge fantasy. Wonderful collaboration.

I could never get into Heart of Darkness either!

Will have to investigate.
I've only just heard the Atheist Hymn from your other new project, and am very much loving it/ looking forward to an album. Sounds great. I went along to the Pope protest (with a Fr Ted style placard 'Down With This Sort Of Thing') yesterday and had a great time.

Yes Catherine's work is exquisite. I have a list of books I have been repeatedly unable to read - so now I am hoping that someone will make them into graphic novels.

Paul, I am actually an agnostic but my sympathies lean towards the sceptical. Which reminds me, I was once in love with a philosophy student who didn't even know I existed. Worse, she could prove it..

The Lazarus Plane Crash album will land early 2011. It really is something!

I can not wait for that Lazarus Plane Crash album.

Also, quited enjoyed that quip about the philosphy student -- it's like grad school all over again (though once was enough for me.)

Jane, as the late great Des O'Connor said:

"People laughed when I said I was going to be a comedian. Well, they're not laughing now."

I used to describe myself as a pessimistic agnostic, but feel like I've 'seen the light' with my atheistic outlook a couple of years ago. I suppose it's a bit strange being so convinced about something you shouldn't be convinced about, but it (unfortunately?) just seems to make the only sense. Still a fun topic to debate though.

Yes it's really great that people are coming out and saying 'I am an atheist" - especially if you are over 18.

There is more at stake in putting yourself on the line that way
